Pamela

froom : Preston, Lancashire, UK

personal object : a photogaph

This photograph of my parents, Edward and Jean, was taken during the last time they were both able to come and stay with me before they died, just four months apart. I always cherished my upbringing but I find, ever more so, just how grateful I am for all they stood for and taught us.

chosen artwork : Industrial Landscape L.S. Lowry, 1955

As a Lancashire lass, I have always kept to my roots. My parents’ families all worked in the cotton mills as overlookers and my father ran a print works. My mum worked in the munitions factory as a young woman. Keeping your feet on the ground, working hard and taking care of the people around you shouts through Lowry’s works, and those things are all part of what I was brought up to value and believe in.
