personal object : two rings

I’ve owned and worn the rings for many years, for their aesthetics. I now wear them for a different reason. After my fiancé passed, I struggled with going without my engagement ring on my left hand. After a year, I moved it to my right hand ring finger and used the square stone ring as it’s ‘protector’. Twenty-two months on from his passing I use the purple one as its replacement – it helps me in my grieving process. I’m 29.

chosen artwork : Untitled Etching #1    Barnett Newman, 1969

This artwork could be interpreted in many ways but for me, grieving, it can be used to represent the many versions of ourself: broken / whole / trying. The white background makes the [reflected] figure stand out - maybe adding to the fear of being observed and judged.
