personal object : a senior citizen bus pass

On reaching the grand old ago of 60, I became eligible for a bus pass. This pass is a source of freedom and encouragement to be active, to explore new environments and to visit friends more frequently. It allows me to revisit old places I have once been to, and see how they may have changed.

chosen artwork : Industrial Landscape    L.S. Lowry, 1955

This painting gives a view of a city (my home city) which has changed considerably since Lowry’s time. Viewing this painting brings back a sense of familiarity and home roots. My bus pass allows frequent journeys to explore the changing of the city and its landscape (in this case Manchester). It helps the elderly to look back, consider change and treasure memories.
