from : London, UK

personal object : a car park ticket

This ticket was purchased on my return to the hospital about 12 hours after my daughter was born. I hadn’t bought a newspaper that day and had nothing else with this date on to commemorate what was the most emotional day of my life. Witnessing my wife giving birth to our first born hit me in a way I had never anticipated and I knew that day that I had changed as a person. I usually forget it is there in my wallet until I am looking for something else I might have lost. Each time I find it, I am taken right back to that day. The writing has faded somewhat over eight and a bit years, which also makes me a little sad each time I find it.

chosen artwork : Rusty Mirage (The City Skyline)    Kiluanji Kia Hendra, 2013

This artwork caught my eye from across the room. Although it is monochrome, the array of light and shadow is interesting. The sense of isolation really resonated; living a busy life in a busy city, I find it difficult to find quiet moments. I’m naturally quite a solitary person and, despite loving my family and friends, and sharing fantastic times with them, I need to remind myself sometimes to find a quiet, still place - just to be. I would like to walk around the sculpture, in situ, to see it change. It looks as though it would be windy; I like the wind.
