Brian Gibson

Brian lives close to the iconic Everton Water Tower. Designed by Thomas Duncan and built in 1864, the tower is now a Grade II listed building. Brian describes how its Gothic, brooding presence dominates and defines the area and inspires his own creativity. His chosen object was a "magic bean" (a "sea heart", Entada Gigas) that he has carried with him for thirty years and on which he encourages people to make a wish. The black granite cylinder is made to the same proportions as the water tower while the words on the red strips of paper are "thought prompts" intended to be randomly extracted from the stone for inspiration or reflection.
