Irene

from : Andover, Hampshire, UK

personal object : a handmade bracelet

As a Christian and a maker of jewellery, I wanted to express my beliefs through my work. A key verse for me in the Bible is Revelations 3:2, which reads “Wake up, strengthen what remains and is about to die.” I translated this into Morse code in my bracelet, using crystals, gold-plated beads and bugle beads. I have been wearing it ever since I made it, about a month ago.

chosen artwork : Photographs for the National Child Labour Committee    Lewis W. Hine, 1908-15

I have always felt passionately about injustice of any kind. This piece of art expresses the artist’s feelings about the injustice of child labour. Personally, I am concerned about the injustice suffered by many of my brothers and sisters around the world who are persecuted for their faith. My bracelet expresses how I feel, and I think we should respond to this injustice.
