personal object : a wristwatch

My wristwatch was inherited from my grandfather. The leather strap has been replaced since, but the sentiment remains. The watch was originally an anniversary present from my grandmother to my grandfather. After he passed, she gifted it to me. I replaced the worn strap with a more delicate one for my wrist. It’s something I wear on a daily basis and is a connection to my grandfather in a material form.

chosen artwork : Chicago, Board of Trade II    Andreas Gursky, 1999

This artwork shows a hectic, busy, passing of time, which also relates to my watch. However, the times passed with my grandfather were always peaceful, usually around holidays! The contrast of the busy/peaceful passing of time embodied in one watch seems like a good comparison.
