Rebecca

from : North Wales

personal object : a pair of earrings

My earrings are made of grey Welsh slate. I live abroad and they remind me of home. The flash of green is unique and shows that the slate has come from the Doretha quarry. I wrote my dissertation on Welsh slate mining at the University of Liverpool.

chosen artwork : Industrial Landscape    L.S. Lowry, 1955

I have chosen this picture because of its links to the Industrial Revolution. It links to my slate earrings, as they represent slate mining – a major industry in North Wales. As a historian who studied in Liverpool, the Industrial Revolution and how it changed the lives of everyday people is something I find really interesting.
